How Big Can Women's Wrestling Become?

If you're reading this article then it's fairly safe to assume that you're familiar with WWE's women's division. They're are given very little time and practically no character development, if fact, most of the divas can be categorized in 1 of 3 categories: bitch, crazy woman and attractive, happy-go-lucky babyface. Many women are hired entirely for their looks, their actually wrestling ability is usually entirely overlooked. Many point to NXT's excellent roster of women and argue that, at least after Triple H takes over, the future of the division could be brighter. That may or may not happen and if it does, it could be years away. Right now, NXT is developing fantastic talent such as Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch but that's irrelevant. Paige is proof that no matter how good you are in NXT, on the main roster, you're just like everybody else.

With recent trends like #GiveDivasAChance, fans have been expressing interest in a more serious approach to the women's wrestling and with small independent companies such as Paragon Pro Wrestling receiving nation TV deals, how big could a company like Shimmer and Shine become?

Ronda Rousey has proven that women can not only be taken seriously as athletes but can also draw serious money. Years ago in Japan an all women's Tokyo Dome show drew up to 42,000 people and generated approximately $4 million in revenue from ticket sales, as well as $1.6 million in merchandise sales. Why can't that happen again?

Shimmer and Shine have tremendously talented rosters with different styles, appearances and personalities. Is it possible for either of them to successfully expand onto the national stage? Could they realistically draw ratings comparable to ROH? Perhaps it could draw in more casual fans in the male demographic who  just want to see attractive women fight. We'll never really know unless it happens. It seems to me like a gamble worth taking.
